Members of Blackmoor Golf Club have raised £20,000 for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) and Kent Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance (KSSAA) – the critical care emergency teams providing life-saving treatment to patients 24/7, 365 days a year. A cheque for £10,000 was presented to representatives from each charity at the Captain’s Drive-In Ceremony on Saturday 11th October.
Every second counts when saving lives, and the air ambulance services pride themselves on being able to reach people within minutes to administer lifesaving care. The charities were selected as the collective Club Charity by immediate Past Captain, Kevin Hawkins (Club Captain), Liz Fullbrook (Ladies’ Captain) and Bob Borzych (Seniors’ Captain) as both Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Kent Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance hold significant meaning for the captains and members of Blackmoor for the wonderful services they provide.

Immediate Past Captain, Kevin Hawkins said: “Most people have had either an experience of the air ambulance or have a connection to their services. My introduction to the HIOWAA was that a few years ago the brother of a good friend of mine was seriously injured by a fall when
working in Bordon, the speed and efficiency of the HIOWAA certainly saved his life that day, and I have supported them ever since.”
Immediate Past Lady Captain Liz Fullbrook selected the KSS Air Ambulance following her son being involved in a serious car accident in a remote area. “The KSS Air Ambulance were the first on the scene and he was airlifted to hospital, having sustained 37 fractures, said Liz. Being able to reach the crash scene and administer specialist care within minutes was vital to saving his life. He was a 25-year-old medical student at the time, and since his accident has undergone 20+ operations, he is now a GP with a family.”
A sum of £10,000 was presented to Natalie Russell, Supporter Engagement Officer at HIOWAA and the sum of £10,000 was presented to Nigel Baxter from KSS Air Ambulance at the annual Captain’s Drive-in ceremony held to mark the outgoing of the current Captains and incoming of the new Club Officers. The cheque was presented on Saturday 11th October by the Immediate Past Captains, Kevin Hawkins (Club Captain), Liz Fullbrook (Ladies’ Captain) and Bob Borzych (Seniors’ Captain). (Pictured above)
Speaking about the donations Natalie Russell of HIOWAA said, “We are immensely grateful to Blackmoor Golf Club for providing a lifeline to patients in their darkest hour. The members’ overwhelming generosity will fund several life-saving missions”.
Talking at the cheque presentation, Nigel Baxter expressed his thanks to Liz Fullbrook and members of Blackmoor. “Every day, our helicopters bring the emergency room to those who suddenly become injured or critically ill, across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. The KSS highly skilled team of doctors and paramedics perform lifesaving procedures - like open-heart surgery, blood transfusions, and emergency anaesthetic - right at the scene, giving patients the best chance of survival. It costs £57k a day to run our lifesaving service, with 91% of our regular income raised by generous supporters. Thank you, ladies captain, Liz Fullbrook, and everyone at Blackmoor Golf club, your support keeps us flying and saving even more lives.”
During their tenure the 2025 Club Captain’s organised plenty of activities to encourage donations from members, including captain’s raffles, dinners, coffee mornings, cake baking sweepstakes, nearly new clothes sales, and enjoyable golf days.
The HIOWAA began operating in 2007 and has carried out more than 10,000 missions for incidents in need of fast response teams. The KSS Air Ambulance began missions in 1989 and has attended over 46,000 incidents. Both charities receive no government support or lottery funding.

Following the AGM at Blackmoor Golf Club the previous evening, Blackmoor welcomed the newly elected Club Officers at the annual Captain’s Drive-in ceremony.
2026 Club Captain Jon Munday drove off the first tee with a 195-yard drive straight down the centre, a distance correctly guessed by Lorna Van Schevensteen in the Drive-in sweepstake, which raised money for Midhurst Palliative Care, the newly appointed Club Charity.
Jon Munday was proceeded by 2026 Ladies’ Captain Alison West, newly appointed Seniors Captain Robert Stewart and 2026 Junior Captain, Thomas Hall.
