Blackmoor golfer Sam Parsons has achieved his second consecutive win in the coveted Club Championships with an impressive gross score of 137 (69 & 68).
Played on 26 & 27th July, Sam who plays off +2.4, went one better than his 2024 scorecard of 138 to cement victory three points clear of runner up Robbie Boxall who finished on 140 (71 & 69).
The Club Championship Weekend is Blackmoor members most notable competition, attracting many of the Club’s lower handicap golfers. This year, 155 players registered to compete in the event which is a 36-hole scratch medal competition played for the Wishart Trophy. After round one, 72 golfers made the cut to play in the second round of the competition on Sunday 27th July.
Playing consistently well and alongside James Hollis (+0.6) and Robbie Boxall (+1.9), after a slow start on Saturday, Sam finished with a strong back nine. On Sunday, after 13 holes both Sam and Robbie were -3 for the round, but Sam still had a 2-shot lead. The pair both bogeyed the 15th and after Robbie made double bogey on the 16th Sam moved 4 shots clear in front with two holes still to play.
Commenting on the competition, Sam said: “After Robbie made the double down, I began to feel that it was my day. James and Robbie are awesome playing partners, were all good friends and its always a good battle between us, we had a really good time out on the course.
It feels awesome to have achieved back-to-back wins and hopefully the winning streak will continue. It would be lovely to reach ten Club Championship titles to equal Mark Burgess, so that’s certainly a dream I’m aiming for. Mark is a great player, and I’ve always looked up to him for what he has achieved in golf.”
Sam has been a member of Blackmoor for a decade and consistently plays impressive golf, reducing his handicap to +2.4 in the past twelve months. Sam plays for the Hampshire first team and in 2024 was crowned Hampshire County Champion at the Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands Amateur Championship.
Also contested over the weekend was the second major competition, the Kerridge Bowl, a 36-hole Handicap Medal Championship, which was won by Henry Millard with a net 64 + 67 = 131.
The Blackmoor Ladies also played in their 18-hole Summer Medal competition on 28 July which was won by Maggie Sargeant with 69.
